Longwood Gardens-a photo essay

IMG_2982

On Christmas Eve I had the opportunity to (finally) visit Longwood Gardens. I say finally since I spent the first 18 years of my life in Philadelphia and yet had never visited this extremely famous attraction. It’s located in the Brandywine Creek Creek Valley in Kennett Square (a very cute town with a slew of colonial era homes, unique eateries, and antique shops) and consists of over 1,077 acres of gardens, woodlands, and meadows. (For the record it’s roughly 35 miles from downtown Philadelphia.)

While I am sure that the Gardens would have been incredible to visit during the warmer weather, visiting during the winter at Christmastime was equally special since then visitors get to see and experience “A Longwood Christmas.” Hope you like the photos and be sure to scroll to the very end for tips and information on visiting!

Information on visiting:
-A Longwood Christmas runs until January 12, 2014
(advanced tickets are recommended as entrances are timed and do sell out)
-Adults are $18 (Monday-Friday visits except 12/26-12/31)
-Adults are $25 (Saturday and Sunday visits and during the period of 12/26-12/31)
-Children four and under are free
-Students 5-18 are $8 ($11 on Saturday and Sunday and the period mentioned above)
-Seniors (62+) are $15 and $22 (Saturday and Sunday and the period mentioned above)
-The grounds are expansive and do require a lot of walking so dress accordingly for both comfort and warmth!
-The grounds are decorated with holiday lights so be forewarned that there will be more visitors as opposed to during the daylight hours
-There is both a cafe and restaurant on-site. The cafe had a slew of selections (sandwiches, soups, hot entree selections, bakery options) and I thought was reasonably priced.

This post is really a feast for the eyes! I had never heard of Longwood Gardens, but it is beautiful! Are these your photos? I esp like the one of the Christmas tree and what looks like an arched colonnade. I went to their website and it is stunning! Would love to visit!

    • I’m glad you liked it! I know you’re a big flower fan as am I! Yes, it’s crazy how I grew up there and never visited once.

And yes, all the photos are mine :)
