Along the river banks-a photo essay

While I love oceans more than anything else, I also have a penchant for rivers.Β The beauty of a city is only magnified by the body of water that runs through it. Rivers are something I could stare at all the time.Β Whether it’s a sedate trickle or a rapidly moving stream, there’s something so calming and soothing about watching a river “pass by.”

All the rivers run into the sea; yet the sea is not full.
-King Solomon

Who hears the rippling of rivers will not utterly despair of anything.

-Henry David Thoreau

In rivers, the water that you touch is the last of what has passed and the first of that which comes; so with present time.
-Leonardo da Vinci

How good are your travel skills? Can you identify the locations of these rivers?

I identified some, a few had a few stumped, though. I always find myself feeling a little odd and unhappy if I’m in a city that has no river, ocean or lake.

A few that I included I know were not at all easily identifiable except if you perhaps lived there πŸ™‚ I’m the same way, I need SOME body of water nearby πŸ™‚

Wow, apparently I’m really bad at identifying rivers. I’m gonna say Chicago is definitely one, and the photo with all the domes in the background is in Italy, maybe the Arno? I agree with the comment above. I’m really partial to cities by the water. I grew up going to the beach all the time, so I have withdrawals if I go too long without seeing the coast.

Well, the one of Pittsburgh (where I live) I think only residents would know and probably then not even all residents lol πŸ™‚ One was also in a national park, so somewhat random. In short, don’t be too hard on yourself! And yes, you are absolutely right about Chicago and Florence!

I’m with you, I love being near the water. Pittsburgh is so many hours from the coast (7ish hours), so I rarely get to see it. There’s just something so wonderful when you get that first ocean breeze.
