Feeling a bit blue…

It was very much a long shot (and by long shot I mean there were over 1000 entries), but I didn’t win the WorldNomads.com 2011 travel writing scholarship. I have to say it was the grand prize that I was smitten with and one of the main reasons I entered it-three weeks in Turkey, a country I have always dreamt of visiting. The experience included a tour of the country as well as a chance to be on assignment, doing research and contributing to the Rough Guides’ Istanbul guidebook. Professional travel writer in the making. Insert major sigh here…

A part of me would just love for the chance to be recognized for my writing by the publishing industry (not that I don’t love my faithful readers). The cliche “getting one’s foot in the door” most especially rings true in travel writing. It is tough as nails!

I’ll keep writing and of course, I’ll keep traveling when I can. And I even promise to post the story I wrote for the contest at a later time. I’ll let you be the ones to judge its “worthiness.”

For now, good night (or good morning) to one and all. Be sure to tune back tomorrow for a new narrative.
