It was during my freshman year of college that I became enchanted by the short story. Although I had been an avid reader since I was a child, novels were what I always preferred. However, once I was introduced to James Joyce’s Dubliners and Sandra Cisneros’ Woman Hollering Creek, all past feelings I had regarding short stories faded. I found them to be just as worthy as any 300 page novel. And to this day, Jhumpa Lahiri’s short story collections, The Interpreter of Maladies and Unaccustomed Earth, remain two of the best works I have ever read.
It was these authors who inspired me to write my own collection of short stories, Full Circle: Tales of Travel and Self-Discovery from Around the World, which I published last year. There are 11 stories in all, and each one takes place in a different part of the world. As The Red Headed Traveler developed out of my love and passion for travel, so did the stories of Full Circle. The setting of each and every one was inspired by my own travels to those locales.
If you love to travel, then I know you will genuinely enjoy reading Full Circle. No matter your age, gender, or nationality and whether you’re an avid reader or a casual one (one benefit of short story collections, they’re nowhere as long as a novel), all of the stories in Full Circle contain themes and characters that all travelers can appreciate and more importantly, relate to. And I have no doubt that reading Full Circle will leave you wanting to book a trip to one of the settings.
And another reason you should get a copy of Full Circle? Why, the beautiful illustrations done by the lovely and amazing Candace Rose Rardon. It was her creative gift that I felt truly brought the my stories and characters to life.
