Of all the souvenirs I brought back from Maui, my jar of bath salts from Tub and Scrub Bath Salt Company is my favorite. I discovered Tub and Scrub by chance. It’s located in the midst of Lahaina, which at one time was the capital of the Kingdom of Hawaii and today is a place to see and experience Maui history. It’s also a spot to pick up souvenirs, which was the purpose of our visit there. In-between souvenir shopping, we stopped at Ululani’s for some shaved ice. While waiting in an incredibly long line for what would be inferior to our first shaved ice experience at Ululani’s other location along Front Street in Lahaina, I saw this visually appealing store immediately behind it. Upon stepping into it, I was greeted by the most pleasurable array of scents. No particular scent stood out, it was just an all-around delight.
While Tub and Scrub sells products besides bath salts (salt scrubs, soaps, and bath fizzers), I think most people feel that what makes the store so unique and memorable from a shopping standpoint are its bath salts. Barrels line the walls of the store on each side, filled to the brim with all different scents ranging from the “everyday” (apple, coconut, rose and vanilla) to the ultra unique and exotic, what I adored most about beautiful Maui (dragon’s blood, mango, plumeria, and rainforest). You can purchase the bath salts in either a bottle (10 ounces), tubes (15 ounces), jars (10 or 15 ounces), or bags (one pound). Although I wasn’t planning on getting anything, I just couldn’t resist, especially when the incredibly kind and sweet owner said that I could make a rainbow of scents filling a bottle with as many as I wanted. Although I probably ended up canceling out some of the aromas, I couldn’t have been happier with my finished product. Even if I did have a bathtub that was ideal for luxuriating baths, I have no plans on using my Tub and Scrub bath salts. The bottle is simply too pretty. Plus, taking off the lid and smelling the salts is the next best thing to being back on Front Street in historic Lahaina, the harbor just a short walk away.
If you visit Maui in the future and are staying on the western side of the island, I highly recommend a visit to Tub and Scrub Bath Salt Company. However, if a visit to the Hawaiian islands is not in the cards and you’re looking for a unique gift for a friend or one that you can savor yourself, go to tubandscrub.com. You can shop online.
