Where in the World is Matt Lauer-Day 1Posted on November 7, 2011
“It conjures up thoughts of a child’s worse fright,
but there are no people to scare in this skier’s delight.”
This was the clue revealed to viewers last week for Day 1 of “Where in the World is Matt Lauer?” although I had no idea where it could possibly be. I remember that he had already been to Austria and Switzerland and when I hear skiing mentioned, I immediately think of cold temperatures. I was completely wrong. Day 1 took Lauer all the way to Namibia, a country in southwest Africa. I knew it wasn’t a cold weather destination as Lauer appeared to be dressed in a lightweight shirt before ultimately revealing his destination. The skiing part of the clue made sense when Lauer skiied down a sand dune. The “thoughts of a child’s worse fright” referenced the Skeleton Coast, a coastal region named so due to the large number of shipwrecks and low survival rate of those stranded there. Although greatly unknown when compared with other African countries like South Africa and Kenya, Namibia looks beautiful-home to beaches, sand dunes, the Big Five game and more-it’s a country I would definitely like to visit one day.
