20 Photos That Prove St. Petersburg is a Bucket List Destination
“St. Petersburg is a gem of world culture and Russia’s most European city.”
“St. Petersburg, the most abstract and intentional city on the entire globe.”
Fyodor Dostoevsky’s Notes from the Underground
It’s safe to say that fifteen hours in the Russian city of St. Petersburg was not nearly enough time. I mean, I barely scratched the surface even though I did cram in a lot of sightseeing, including visiting the former Czarist palace of Peterhof which is located nearly an hour away from the city center.
I’ve been to countless cities around the world that just ooze history, heaping amounts of it. And then there’s St. Petersburg, a locale that with every street I passed and every building I admired, I just imagined it 50 years ago, a century ago, even going back to more than 300 years when St. Petersburg was first founded by Peter the Great. And when you think what the city of St. Petersburg has born witness to in the last century, well, it’s simply incredible.
St. Petersburg is a city I have no doubt I will return to one day. If only to catch it on a day when the weather is beautiful.
